Language disorders

Summary/Definition

Language is a complex symbolic system used to convey thoughts and communicate with other people in various ways. The process of pronouncing sounds through the respiratory system, larynx and oral cavity for communication is called “speech”.

Thus, the process of speech can be divided into the process of breathing, in which the diaphragm, intercostal muscles, abdominal muscles and sternocleidomastoid muscles move, the process of vocalization, in which sounds are formed in the larynx, and the process of articulation, in which the tongue, jaw and pharyngeal muscles are involved.

The term “language disorders” that we currently use can be divided into language disorders and speech disorders. People with language disorders have difficulty communicating with other people and have limitations in social and economic activities. Therefore, accurate diagnosis of language disorders and early speech rehabilitation is very important.
